day 31
I've made it a month into the project!
On this post I had the misfortune of doing a sketch of the T-Rex skidding around and my computer crashed before I saved. Argh! I hope this sketch is as strong as the first, but I guess I'll never know.

day 30
I'm nearly a third of the way into the project now. I noticed the blog shows fifty entries at a time, without having to go back to earlier posts. I'm not yet sure if that break will affect the rhythm of the story or not... ( but will most likely let the content drive whatever I decide to do...) But it's something I'm finding myself thinking about a bit now. I'm also kind of feeling my way through a general overall idea as to what'll happen in a general way. It's pretty interesting, just as a process, to see how the this thing is kind of taking a life of it's own.

day 24

As I'm working straight ahead on my hundred days of dinosaurs, I'm starting to form a thought of how it's going to work as a whole piece. I'm finding I have a general concept emerging, but working in this fashion, it's difficult at this point to see how an overall story arc is going to work. It may be too short for a hundred days,...it may go over a hundred days( although I'm wanting to commit to these constraints, since that was my initial concept.) Kinda flying without a net, but I'm having a good time with the project anyway!

day 22
I started drawing the confrontation between these two dinosaurs last night and had considered using a more obscure horned dinosaur, but opted for the classic triceritops/T-Rex showdown.

day 21

egg eater.

day 20
It's interesting how this project is developing in my mind...it's pretty apparent that the T-Rex is immerging as the dominant villain of the piece...not surprising 'cause he's the coolest ever!
...of course there are other interesting meat-eating antagonists that could be cool, but it's hard to beat the king!
...besides... they're fun to draw.
(...and nobody'd be afraid of an herbivore!)

day 19
I just got back from San Francisco again and wanted to get a drawing up before the end of the day! I'm ahead in my mind a few days as far as what's going to happen... now I just have to catch up with the drawing end!

Day 18
Gus' dining is distracted...

day 17
It's nearing the end of the day and I'm just getting around to posting. It's nice to have a couple sketches ahead when posting these, but I'm a little behind the eight ball now, with no spare sketches!

Day 15
I've reached the end of Gus' first day. Thank you everyone for the positive support on this project so far!

day 13

Gus looks back from a safe distance.

Day 12.
Gus heads for the fronds! I just got back from San Francisco where I'm teaching a storyboard class at the Academy of Art and I doubt I'll get around to doing another drawing today, but fortunately I'm a day ahead of schedule and have a spare!

day 11.

Gus successfully extricates himself!

Thursday, September 8, 2011

I'm at day 10 of my hundred days of dinosaurs! Whew! Ten percent done!
...picking up on Gus struggling to free himself from the jaws of the crocodile mother who scooped him up with her other hatchlings...

Day 8.
I spent the last couple of days up in San Francisco so have been neglecting Gus as he's been traveling around in a croc bus with a bunch of her babies. Fortunately for him, mother croc hasn't figured out he's there!...yet...

Friday, September 2, 2011

Here's day number 7.( And from the looks of it I'm wondering if there'll be and eighth day!) If Gus is lucky, he'll return on monday, as I'm out for the weekend.
Good luck with that croc, Gus!

Thursday, September 1, 2011

well, I've made it to day 6 of my hundred days of dinosaurs project. I 'm glad I didn't pre-emp the project by committing to a post EVERY day, but I'll do the best I can to keep it going. I wish the post could be modified so that you could scroll down to advance the story, rather than up, but evidently that's not in the cards.
I've been thinking a bit about Gus and am not really sure what kind of dinosaur he is; probably a velociraptor, but I'm open to other ideas from any dinosaur afficianados out there! ....maybe he'll grow into an Allosaurus, who knows?
